Sebastian de Leon Lorenzo, or better known as Basti, is a fourth year AB Interdisciplinary Studies student who has been playing golf for more than half of his life. The interest began when he was nine years old after witnessing his father engaged in the sport. Although seven out of 12 of his siblings enjoy golf as well, only Basti saw it as more than just a pastime, dedicating himself towards improving his skills.

By the age of fourteen, Basti was a member of the Philippine Golf Team. His membership gave him the opportunity to compete internationally, most especially in Asia where he bagged several awards. At present he is no longer part of the national team; however, he still continues his love for golf as a varsity player in the Ateneo Golf Team.
A student athlete since his freshman year, Basti begins his training as early as 5:30 AM and does so for about an hour. “[Golf varsity members] have the freedom to choose when we want to practice,” he shares. “It really depends on your schedule.” In order to share his time with his academics, Basti only trains three to four times a week. This is a stark contrast to his daily training schedule during his high school days in Brent International School.

When asked about his plans for the future, Basti shares that he would like to work in a bank, “the best way to learn about money” once he graduates. After taking up tracks in Management and Communication, he says subjects he took up such as Accounting and Finance really pushed him to study hard. As much as he loves golf, Basti no longer sees himself continuing the sport competitively after college but would still like to keep golf as a hobby.
